About the Summit
The series of events and programmes of the Budapest Family Summit is implemented with the support of the Hungarian Government. The working group organizing the event is headed by Katalin Novák, Minister of State for Family, Youth and International Affairs, in cooperation with Hungarian and international organizations.
The values of accepting life, undertaking to give birth to and raise children, and families based on the marriage of a man and a woman have been compromised in the past decades but need to be restored in order to implement a sustainable future. We are glad that in Hungary the number of marriages is increasing – we are convinced that the family-friendly measures contributed to this –, the ratio of divorces is declining, willingness to undertake to give birth to and raise children has improved to some extent, and the number of abortions is continually decreasing, furthermore, the number of adoptions is rising. Taking all these into consideration, the purpose of the event is to promote the creation of a life-, family- and marriage-friendly environment and public thinking and approach in our country and at the international level. The event offers an opportunity for developing relations between political, non-governmental and clerical organizations engaged in fostering families, as well as between the economy and the media, strengthening their joint efforts, and for reviewing solution opportunities based on unconventional approaches to demographic challenges affecting several countries and for exchanging views on efficient and good practices.
The series of programmes of the Conference include the following events:
- On the opening day of Thursday, 25 May 2017, the 2nd Budapest Demographic Forum will be organized by Hungary – Hungarian and international experts and politicians will give lectures in the topic of demographic and family policy.
- On 26-27 May 2017 the 11th World Congress of Families will be organized in conjunction with our international partner, the US based World Congress of Families. The National Association of Large Families will take part in the organization and be represented at the programmes, in addition, family organizations and families, politicians, clerical persons, experts, ecclesiastical communities and renowned Hungarian and foreign personalities will also attend the event from Hungary, the Carpathian basin and Europe.
- On 27 May 2017, the organization One of Us will organize a forum in the theme of the protection of life, with the involvement of Hungarian and European non-governmental organizations, political, professional and ecclesiastical participants.
Several family-focused and cultural programmes will feature in the events, in addition to professional lectures and discussions, on all three days.
On Sunday, 28 May 2017, a family festival will be organized in the heart of the city centre, which will entertain the participating families with several interesting and amusing events, by placing the emphasis on the importance of marriage and the values of the family, showing the importance of communities and solidarity.
We are confident that the success of this event will further enhance Hungary’s favourable international reputation and promote the spreading of family friendly-policy at the international level.
